April Wrap Up | 2020

I had a slightly better month this month but I still didn’t get to all the books I wanted to. I think I’m going to cut down the books for my challenges next month even though I feel like I’m a little behind but I also feel like I’m losing the plot a little with restricting my reading. I thought this was going to happen but I’m going to try and get ahead of it by giving myself a month of focusing, but that’s for my TBR. I read a lot of great books this month and some that I definitely think will be in my favourite of the year post!

On with the wrap up:

  • 9 books read
  • e-arcs
  • 5720 pages
  • 14 blog posts published (not including this one)
  • 37/107 books read for Goodreads Challenge (5 books ahead)
  • 22/50 prompts completed for the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge
  • 10/26 letters completed for the A-Z Reading Challenge
  • 19/52 prompts completed for the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge.
  • Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham|I think this might be one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. There was so much detail and wonderful context in this book that I really ended up learning a helluva a lot.
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling| I have finally finished my reread this month and I have mixed feelings about it, I feel happy cause I can move on to other books but then I also feel sad because I love the series so much.
  • The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern| This was an odd read for me, purely because I loved the world so much but hated certain aspects of the storyline and relationships. It was so contrasting but I did really love this book and the experience of reading it, I actually think this would do better on a reread so that’s definitely on the cards.
  • Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens| I really loved this book but if you were to ask me what it was specifically I couldn’t tell you what it was. I loved the characters and the story and the switching of time frames, it was just an all round brilliant read.

  • Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel| This one fell a little short for me. I feel like it missed the mark especially with the focus of the story and the characters. I found I was bored by the people we were supposed to care about.
  • The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton | I wish I had read a physical copy of this one because I found the characters hard to keep track off and reading it was hard going at times. I did enjoy the reveal but it wasn’t enough to win me over.
  • 10 Minutes, 38 Seconds in this Strange World by Elif Shafak| I adored this book and the concept behind the book. It was so bittersweet learning about someone who was already dead. It was a beautifully written book.
  • The Alice Network by Kate Quinn | Another love of the month. I adored the two main characters and the two different perspectives, it was such a learning experience. It’s a beautiful exploration of grief and wartime.
  • Tripwire by Lee Child | I think this might be my favourite one of the Jack Reacher books I’ve read so far. I really loved the relationships and the mystery element all the way through.

I missed all the books I wanted to read this month, so I will making these a priority next month. There are some really great books here and I really want to take the time to read them and see if I love them as much as everyone else did.
