February Wrap Up & March TBR | 2024

The second month has let me down. To be honest I wasn’t shocked, I just didn’t feel like reading and I hit a little bit of a slump part way through the month. February is always a little bit of a letdown for me, but onwards and upwards I suppose!

Stats for my February Wrap Up

  • Books finished – 9
  • DNF – 1
  • New reads – 7
  • Rereads – 1
  • Pages read – 3828

Empire of the Vampire

I had heard such mixed things about this book and was dubious going in, however the story was rich and I loved the switching back and forth. I’ve just got my hands on Empire of the Damned so can’t wait to jump into that one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

This wasn’t a bad read, just seemed to be lacking in direction. There was so much information involved, I’m not sure what we were supposed to be focusing on by the end.

⭐⭐⭐

The Taxidermist’s Daughter

I think I started reading this at the wrong time. I was in the middle of a slump and it just didn’t work for me. I don’t think I’ll be picking it up again. Will probably give it away for someone else to enjoy.

  • The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs – I was so disappointed with this one, but the writing wasn’t my style and I didn’t love where the story was going.
  • We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler – I managed 50 pages but literally nothing had happened, it wasn’t coherent and I struggled to connect with the characters.
  • One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston – ⭐⭐⭐1/2
  • If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio – ⭐⭐⭐1/2
  • Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter – ⭐⭐⭐1/2
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot – ⭐⭐⭐
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Hooked by Emily McIntire – ⭐⭐⭐
  • The Library Murders by Merryn Allingham – ⭐⭐⭐
  • This Golden Flame by Emily Victoria – ⭐⭐⭐1/2

The Mask of Mirrors

I’m really enjoying this one. It was a TBR jar pick from the end of the month and it’s the only one to make it past my reading slump! Fingers crossed it works out for me.

Flock

This one kept getting recommended on my TikTok so I decided to give it a go. I’m enjoying it so far, and it seems to be an easy read.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter is a comfort read for me and I usually put the audiobook on in the middle of the night when I’m struggling to sleep and need to calm my brain down. It will probably take me a while to get through but it’s like a warm cup of tea.

March TBR

I’m trying to rebuild some more momentum, so we’re keeping with the original TBR plan. I’ve chosen five challenge reads and two from my physical TBR. I’m trying to keep the pressure off and have a little fun with my reading as well.

    • The 52 Book Club’s 2024 Challenge – 29. A yellow spine
  • Dark Star Burning, Ash Falls White by Amelie Wen Zhao

    • Popsugar Reading Challenge – 21. A book that came out in a year that ends with “24”
