January Wrap Up & February TBR | 2024
It’s the first wrap up of 2024 and I cannot wait to dive in. I have started the year off well, and far succeeded my goals and aims for the month. There has definitely been a moment of stars aligning for all this to happen, I have managed to dodged book hangovers and I have reread a lot of great books. The joy for reading has definitely come back!
Stats for my December Wrap Up
- Books finished – 19
- DNF – 2
- New reads – 15
- Rereads – 4
- Pages read – 6648

Sorcery of Thorns
This book took me totally by surprise, for a start I didn’t realise it was YA, but also the magic system was stunning. I adored the way books were used and the characters were brilliantly written, some of the best.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nineteen Steps
I actually wrote a full review on how much I hated this book. The writing was awful, the characters were two-dimensional and it was just a bad experience.
⭐

- The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs – I was so disappointed with this one, but the writing wasn’t my style and I didn’t love where the story was going.
- We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler – I managed 50 pages but literally nothing had happened, it wasn’t coherent and I struggled to connect with the characters.

- Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Across The Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave – ⭐⭐⭐
- The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank – ⭐⭐⭐
- The It Girl by Ruth Ware – ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
- Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q Sutanto – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- All Systems Red by Martha Wells – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Desperate Measures by Katee Robert – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Final Girls by Riley Sagar – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Hamlet, Prince of Robots by M. Darusha Wehm – ⭐⭐⭐
- The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson

Empire of the Vampire
Jumped the gun a little on this one as it’s one of my challenge reads for next month but it’s a beast. I’m really enjoying it at the moment and I’m hoping it’s going to pick up in pace a little though.
If We Were Villains
Another challenge read for this month but I didn’t want to start a new Kindle book so thought I’d get ahead. I’m not sure what this one is about but it seems to be an interesting read all the same.

One Last Stop
I picked this audiobook up as a whim and I’m not entirely sure whether I like it or not. It’s not really grabbing my attention. I’ll keep going and see if it gets any better.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter is a comfort read for me and I usually put the audiobook on in the middle of the night when I’m struggling to sleep and need to calm my brain down. It will probably take me a while to get through but it’s like a warm cup of tea.

February TBR
So I’m taking the massive success of last month as a sign that this new way of doing my TBR is working so why change something that’s working. I think having the challenge reads only being 5 books for the month and having free rein for the rest of it makes things a little easier!
