five-stars

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London...
As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city's gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner.
Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.

My all time favourite series is back with another reread. There may be slight spoilers for The Bone season, so just be wary of that going into this review. The Mime Order might just be my favourite of the series so far, the ending is always fantastic and I adore the characters. I think this one is an interesting take because although a dystopian there isn’t an automatic fight for what’s right. I love the way everything develops and the ending genuinely blows me away every time I read it. This time around however I picked up on some more of the foreshadowing but I still love it and it’s still one of my favourites. I love how well constructed this book is and how it truly brings more into the development of everything.

Characters in The Mime Order

We follow Paige as she works towards her new mission, finding a way to stop the Rephaim. I adore Paige, and always will I think. She is my perfect main character, she has spunk and bad-assery whilst still being human and flawed. There’s a certain sense of selfishness that follows her and seeing her try to break that side of her is a really interesting take on her character as a whole. I love the relationships she makes and breaks all the way through and how she comes into her own. It’s one of my favourite things to watch, especially seeing her break down the walls that cage her in.

When looking at The Mime Order as a whole, the different voyants that make up the gang and their reaction to Paige and everything she went through and how that changes the dynamic between them all. It was a great look at how the status quo changed so subtly with such great impact. I really loved the moments where they were trying to sort how to feel about each other. It was just a really beautiful book and insight into a found family. I love it all. Plus we have to mention Warden, who is definitely one of my all time favourite books and I love reading about him and his emotional range!

The Good and the Bad

The Mime Order surprisingly doesn’t have any bad parts. That’s why it is one of my all time favourite books. So I’m gonna gush about all the reasons I love it oh so much. This book combines all my loves, great characters, great intrigue and all the fight scenes. I feel as though this is the book where everything starts to come together and you really get to see the world and the characters come into their own. It’s really well-written, and so well constructed that it’s flawless. Samantha Shannon is a master of words and The Mime Order is a testaments to that. Basically if you’re looking for a brilliantly written book about voyants and a dystopian world then this one is for you.

Recommendation

ALWAYS. I don’t know why you haven’t read this book, but you really need to. I will never not gush about how much I love this book.
