Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball—or that "Prince Charming" would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.
Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other—except, perhaps, this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet, if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

Overview of book review

I think I have a problem and I’m not sure I’m too upset about it to be honest and An Offer from a Gentleman is just the next part in my descent into the Bridgerton world and I’m never coming back out. I adored this book and although this wasn’t my favourite of the ones I have read it still made me swoon. I really love Benedict and his relationship with Sophie and the way that it all ended up working out because you already know going into these books that everything works out. But the beauty of these books is always the smut and also the drama that follows the characters around. I think I loved the idea of Sophie struggling with her parentage and also the hints of Cinderella retelling because that was some of the greatest parts of the book. I really loved the different perspective with Sophie being a servant rather than a noblewoman it was really well done.

Characters book review

An Offer From a Gentleman follows Benedict, the second son of the Bridgerton family and Sophie a young housemaid as they try and figure out whether their love can survive the world of nobility. I think although I liked Benedict he has been probably my least favourite of the siblings to read about. I think the way he approached the situation was a little lopsided and I would have loved for him to be a little more likeable and relatable. Sophie was a little tiresome at times, but overall I preferred her way of looking at the world and the experience that she brought to the book. My favourite character in this book was definitely Lady Bridgerton, she was so wonderfully brilliant and the way she took charge of the situation will forever be one of my favourite moments. I think it was great to see a different side to her and to see her as more of a human than the nagging mother. One thing I will say that was missing from this book was the abundance of side characters that are usually present.

best bits of book review

The best bits of An Offer From a Gentleman was definitely the parts that were retold from Cinderella. I loved the twist and how it didn’t take over the actual story. It was just the right mixture of a retelling and original story, I really enjoyed the new perspective and how dramatic it could be.

worst bits of book review

I really missed the other characters in this one, I wish the siblings had played a bigger role and there had been more of an outside influence on them as a couple and Sophie had become one of the family. It was weird not to have that throughout the book.

recommend book review

Of course I would. This series is one of my favourites and I’m really loving the family dynamic and the love and the romance and the smut. I just really love this series. Please read it so I have people to swoon about it with.
