Six of Crows | If you like this… #1

I thought I would start a new series here on the blog, and I think this is a perfect time, especially because my reading is going at a snail’s pace and I haven’t got that many reviews lined up. This new series will focus on recommending books based on one single book.

The first one I have chosen is one of my all time favourite book – Six of Crows.

Six of Crows

Six of Crows | If you like this… #1Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Series: Six of Crows #1
Published by Henry Holt and Company on September 29, 2015
Pages: 465
Goodreads
five-stars

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .
A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

So this book is the perfect book about a heist with some morally grey characters which is definitely something I can get behind and thoroughly enjoy. I think the best thing about this book is that although it is part of the Grisha universe you don’t have to have liked that one to really appreciate this one.

My recommendations

I have picked books that centre around morally grey characters or maybe someone who is rising up against those in power to try and get one over on them. To be honest some of these books are all time favourites and I would recommend them even if you haven’t read Six of Crows.

  • The Final Empire – This one is probably the one that is the closest in terms of story to Six of Crows. I read this one second and got such Six of Crows vibes it was unreal. So I would definitely recommend this one if you’re having withdrawal symptoms!
  • Vicious – One of my all time favourite books! I love how you have no idea who you should be rooting for in this story, neither of the main characters are nice people but they each have their reasons, I love how this book makes you question who is a hero and who isn’t.
  • Throne of Glass – Would this be a recommendation post if Sarah J Maas wasn’t on here somewhere? Probably not. I think this one came to mind because there’s a group of unlikely friends working together to overcome the challenges. Plus Celaena isn’t the nicest of people.
  • Rebel of the Sands – This one got added because Jin totally reminds me of Kaz and I love the dynamic with the magic and the politics. I would definitely recommend this one if you’re a fan of great shooting boys!
  • Middlegame – I think this one made the list because Roger and Dodger reminded me so much of the dynamic that Kaz and his team have and I loved the quest like elements of this story. I would highly recommend this one. It was 5 star read for me!
