The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club.
Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.
Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.
I had heard so much about this book and I really wanted to try it out. I was expecting something a little different to what The Bromance Book Club offered. The writing was the first issue I had. The style was superficial and everything felt a little superficial. It just didn’t have any of the tropes I enjoyed and the payoff didn’t work for me. I wanted more from the story and the relationship and for the characters to have actually grown. Basically, I wish there had been more growth and I don’t think I’ll be carrying on with the series!

The characters in The Bromance Book Club
When I say I really didn’t enjoy the characters, I really didn’t. There is nothing redeeming about any of them, and their relationships not only with the main couple but with any of them seemed real. This book had a great opportunity to show growth and some really great male characters but it fell completely short. The men in this story are so disappointing, and the entire way they use literature was disappointing. I don’t fully understand what the point of the group is, especially as they took the worst bits and used them to their advantage. The whole group just didn’t sit well with me.
What I would have loved to see would have been for Gavin and Thea’s relationship to heal in a more natural way. It irritated me how Gavin was so clueless about everything. I actually started rooting for Thea to leave him, which I’m sure isn’t the point of the book. I needed for there to be something redeeming about them and there wasn’t. The things touted as Gavin’s redemption didn’t outmatch his previous actions. It was just a little bit of a letdown!

Good and Bad things
If you can’t already tell this read had more bad things than good. However, the good things were the reason this one didn’t completely flop. The main thing was actually the book within the book, I enjoyed reading those chapters more so than the actual storyline. Plus I think it was actually a better storyline than the original. I would have loved for there to have been more focus on those characters and story. In fact, I would read that as a standalone series rather than carrying on this with this one!
The bad bits in The Bromance Book Club for me was the writing style and how tropey everything came across as. There are so many cliches thrown into this story it actually ruins the other parts of the book for me. There was just so much that was left underdeveloped that I actually don’t care about the characters and their lives. I think there’s a lot of potential within the story. However, none of that potential was moved on and it just left a bad taste in my mouth for the entire time of reading.
Recommend?
Nope. There are better romance books out there with better characters and better romance. I would say this might be a good book for someone looking to start their journey into romance book. I just think there is books that do this better than this one!

Have you carried on with this series? What did you think? Have I got it wrong? Let me know!

I had a similar experience with this book, only it was Thea I really didn’t like. I felt like she was a horrible communicator, and thought no wonder Gavin was clueless. They were both just so frustrating.
Thank goodness someone else thought the same as me! I just read it thinking ‘Divorce please!’
Yours isn’t the only disappointed review I’ve read although I can’t now of course remember who the other one was by. But you’re not alone and I will avoid this!
I definitely would, there are moments where it was just pure frustration!
What I loved about this book is that the main plot runs parallel to an actual story-line from a book our main character is seeking guidance from. I liked what that indicated. That books are what we turn to for answers when we run away from life.
