Best books of the year | 2020
Merry Christmas! I really hope you have had a brilliant festive season!
It’s that time of the year again where I look at the entire year’s reading and work out which books I have loved this year and would recommend to anyone looking for a new book to read. This no way an extensive list, and I might have to make a part two.
This isn’t to say that any books I haven’t mentioned on this list are bad, I just didn’t rate them highly enough to be included.

- The Sandman – This was one that I had bought a really long time ago and put off reading but I loved the story and the art was exquisite. I really can’t wait to read the rest and see how the book ends.
- Come Tumbling Down – I actually ended up rereading the whole series and I loved them all. This book was particularly great, I adored Jack and Jill so getting to live in their world again was brilliant.
- The House on the Cerulean Sea – This book wasn’t even on my radar and it ended up flying so high on my list, I adored the characters and the magical fantastical elements of this book. It was just beautiful.
- A Man Called Ove and My Grandmother Sends Her Regards & Apologises – 2020 is the year that I fall head over heels in love with Fredrik Backman. Both of these books blew me away, there was so much character development all the way through the two books, just brilliant stories.

- Where the Crawdads Sing – Another one that I really didn’t expect to love but fell in love with. This one is so atmospheric and I adored the learning curve that the characters end up going on. It was beautiful, well-written and one of my all-time favourites.
- Midnight in Chernobyl – I’m not usually a massive fan of non-fiction books, in fact I go out of my way to avoid them, but this one was so well-written I not only learnt a lot but I also enjoyed learning about it! It was brilliant all the way through.
- The Bear and the Nightingale – This has got to be one of my favourite series starter this year! I adored how the atmosphere was built and the battle between religion and other superstitions, it was brilliantly done. Cannot wait to read the next books.
- Maisie Dobbs – I adored this book, there was such a dramatic reaction to the story within this one. There were moments where I genuinely sobbed because of everything that had happened. It was a brilliant book.
- Girl, Serpent, Thorn – The mythology and the characters in this book, left me wanting it to go on forever! I really would recommend this story to anyone, it blew me away!

What were your favourite books of the year? Let me know and maybe they’ll make it onto my 2021 TBR.

What a brilliant list! One of my favourite read of 2020 was a Fredrik Backman book too – Anxious People. I intend to read all of his works in 2021🙂
I love hearing about other people loving Backman, I definitely think he is underhyped!
I think so too.. same with John Boyne. He’s another of my fav authors and I feel not enough people read his books🙂
Great list! I really want to read house in the cerulean sea!!
I couldn’t believe how much I loved this book, it took me completely by surprise, I really hope you get to it soon!
What a lovely selection! My best=of post will come out on 1 January, in case I finish something stunning just before midnight on New Year’s Eve – it has happened! Thank you for a great year of blogging and comment chat!
I usually do, but I knew that the books I was reading weren’t going to cut the list! It meant that I could publish earlier, for once I have SO much content for January I don’t know if I’m going to have enough time to write it all!
Thank you for hanging around and reading my rambles! <3
