Disappointing Books of the Year… So Far | 2020

I thought that since I had done my favourite books of the year I would also do my most disappointing reads of the year so far. These aren’t necessarily bad books they are books that I was expected so much more from and felt a little cheated by.

  • The Silent Patient | I had heard so much about this book and the ending but I felt underwhelmed by this one and I thought the ending was predictable.
  • Grave Mercy | This was a reread for me but it kind of missed the mark for me. I think my memory of this one hyped it up to the point where the book didn’t live up to the hype.
  • Station Eleven | Another one that I had heard really good things about but this one but I actually found it to be kinda boring and I thought the subject needed swapping in this one.
  • The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle | I think I would have liked this one better if I hadn’t had listened to it on audiobook. I really struggled to keep up with who was who and what was happening all the way through.
  • Uncommon Type | Tom Hanks is basically one of my favourite people and I really wanted to read this one, but I found that I wasn’t a big fan of the stories and there was something missing overall.
  • Gravity of Us | I really wanted to love this one and although the story was interesting I found the relationship to feel a little forced and there was too much happening within the story.

    1. I have heard good things about Not That Bad, so I will definitely be reading your thoughts on them before picking it up! xo

  1. Luckily I hadn’t heard of The Silent Patient before I read it and thrillers aren’t my normal genre so my expectations were low! Which meant I actually thought it was all right!

    1. I think my biggest issue was I didn’t connect with the main character and he actually really frustrated me. But I’m so glad you liked it! <3
