Disappointing Books of the Year… So Far | 2020
I thought that since I had done my favourite books of the year I would also do my most disappointing reads of the year so far. These aren’t necessarily bad books they are books that I was expected so much more from and felt a little cheated by.

- The Silent Patient | I had heard so much about this book and the ending but I felt underwhelmed by this one and I thought the ending was predictable.
- Grave Mercy | This was a reread for me but it kind of missed the mark for me. I think my memory of this one hyped it up to the point where the book didn’t live up to the hype.
- Station Eleven | Another one that I had heard really good things about but this one but I actually found it to be kinda boring and I thought the subject needed swapping in this one.

- The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle | I think I would have liked this one better if I hadn’t had listened to it on audiobook. I really struggled to keep up with who was who and what was happening all the way through.
- Uncommon Type | Tom Hanks is basically one of my favourite people and I really wanted to read this one, but I found that I wasn’t a big fan of the stories and there was something missing overall.
- Gravity of Us | I really wanted to love this one and although the story was interesting I found the relationship to feel a little forced and there was too much happening within the story.

What are some of the books that you have found lacking this year? Let me know!

My two most disappointing reads this year have been The Oxford Inklings and Not That Bad – two very different books, one on authors, one on rape culture, but I couldn’t finish either of them! I blogged about them here https://librofulltime.wordpress.com/2020/05/27/two-dnfs-today-a-rare-occurrence/
I have heard good things about Not That Bad, so I will definitely be reading your thoughts on them before picking it up! xo
It was so traumatic a read I just couldn’t take it.
Luckily I hadn’t heard of The Silent Patient before I read it and thrillers aren’t my normal genre so my expectations were low! Which meant I actually thought it was all right!
I think my biggest issue was I didn’t connect with the main character and he actually really frustrated me. But I’m so glad you liked it! <3
