NANOWRIMO 2020 | Finish is near
I wasn’t going to update until the end but I really want to share what has been going on, I have had a pretty lousy week when it comes down to writing and I have spent the weekend catching up and trying to keep a little bit of a buffer between me and falling behind. I definitely believe having such a strong outline for my story has helped me work out where I was going and has made writing feel a lot easier and a lot more fun.
There have definitely been parts in writing this novel where I have started to doubt my process and my outline, this week especially but having the outline there has meant I have been able to write shorter chapters and leave them for later to build on a solid foundation which has taken a little bit of the pressure off.
This week has definitely been proof that NaNoWriMo is a marathon not a sprint and I have definitely felt the slowing down this week. Not taking care of myself mentally and struggling through the most of it. So my aim for the last little bit is to make sure I’m drinking enough and to spend a little more time on self-care.
My tips on having a successful NaNoWriMo
- Look after yourself – I have mentioned how I’ve struggled this week and I think it comes down to this! I really haven’t been watching myself and looking after myself and so my writing has suffered!
- Find a planning method that works for you – I am a big believer in having a general plan and although this year I have planned extensively the other years I won have been pantsing it so just find what works for you and run with
- Enjoy it – Yes it’s stressful and there is a lot of pressure but NaNo is what you make it, so make it fun and enjoy it where you can!

How’s your NaNoWrimo going? Let me know!
