Reading Slump
I have officially hit a slump. I have only read 2 books this month and I feel a little deflated about it, I look back on what I had planned for July and realised I have completely fallen off the bandwagon. I know I feel like a failure especially because I am desperately trying to catch up on my challenges and work out whether or not I was going to make it to the end of the year.
I tried to stop myself thinking that way but it’s hard when you set yourself such numerical goals for the year and then everything ends up going to crap basically before the middle of the year. I have struggled this month with my mental health and with the motivation and time to read. So I am officially in a slump.
So you may not see too many reviews from me in the upcoming weeks but I will be trying to keep up posting regularly.

Let me know what you do to get out of a slump!

Hang in there! I’m sort of in a slump too. Hopefully it will pass, good luck:-)
I hope it does too! Fingers crossed for August! <3
Even if you just ramble about your feelings, I’ll still read it! We’ve all been through reading slumps and they suck. I’m sort of going through one myself and I feel guilty about it. Trying not to convince myself not to feel that way, but it’s hard! Please don’t beat yourself up about it if you can help it. <3
Thank you soo much! That means so much! I have had a really crap couple of months, and I’m only just now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m really hoping August will be a better month and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you too <3 xx
I’m so sorry you’ve hit a slump, it’s a horrible time for a book blogger and happened to me my first year of blogging. I’d put myself under so much pressure with requesting too many NetGalley books and then ended not being able to read or review them. Four years later I still hit slumps, but I try not to beat myself up about it, as book blogging and reading is a hobby and not a job. We’re only human and can only do so much, plus this year is a difficult one, for everyone. so, please be kind to yourself and try not to worry xxx
Yesss! Netgalley is a curse and a blessing! I have taken a bit of a step back because I was getting so many books and then panicking about them. Thank you so much for the love <3 xxx
I hope you find a book that get you out of slump soon.
Thank you! Me too <3
You are not alone. It’s been a struggle to concentrate and most of the books I’ve read have underwhelmed me. I’m ready for this feeling to pass!
I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Hopefully August is better for the both of us! xo
Don’t be too hard on yourself – these are weird times and I have certainly for example paused reading a hard book of essays on reading and a worthy book on immigration to read Nadiya from Great British Bake-Off’s novel …
Yes! I definitely think putting down a book to pick another up can sometimes be a great fix. I’ve ended the month reading a shorter book that has been on my shelf for a really long time. xo
I know what you mean about being a reading slump. I have been struggling this month with time to read, and with the motivation.
I have zero motivation to pick up a book and I’m really struggling to find things I am excited to read. I think August might be a good month, if I can make reading a priority again! xo
The Retrograde did not help me this month as far as reading goes. I hope you find some. Here is two books that might help. They seem to be summery reads.
1.One Skid Mark: BBW Roller Derby Romance (Skid Marks Book 1)
April Ryder
2.Viva Las Villain (A Christian short story cozy mystery)
Cynthia Hickey.
I haven’t read them yet. I just got them as month.
It happens to everyone. I was in a slump last month but this month I’ve doubled the amount of books I read in June.
Yay! I’m hoping I can do the same in August! xo
I wasn’t so much in a slump this month but end of term exhausted me so last week I didn’t read anything at all. But summer holidays now and I’ve finished a making a present (which took 3 months) so I’ve been making up for my lack of reading!
Yay, for getting to read more. I cannot wait until I’m feeling better and I can make reading a priority again! xo
Slumps are the worst! I hope you’ll feel better soon! <3
I think I’m getting there, just need to start making time for reading again and make it a priority! <3
Slumps happen to everyone, I’m pretty sure… So don’t put pressure on yourself to get out of it! Some suggestions for you:
1. Read what you feel like, when you feel like it. Maybe go back to a previous favorite that you know will simply be an enjoyable read. That’s what I tend to do.
2. I give myself the break that my mind seems to be wanting if I don’t even feel like reading an old favorite. 3. Another thing could be to try a different genre if you’re just tired of what you’ve been reading. But again, there’s no pressure! The books will still be here when you’re ready for them again!
4. If you’re wanting to make reading a priority again (as I see from an above comment) maybe just pick one time of day that consistently works for you to read and don’t put pressure to do much beyond that.
I know I’m new here and don’t know you from Adam, but I hope this helps! (I also hope you’re out of the slump now, since it’s been a few weeks.)
