1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, this author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better...—Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814
But this time, the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry—he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams...
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself...

Overview of book review

This was the second book in the Bridgertons series and I loved it, there is definitely a formula to these books but I love them and cannot wait to carry on with the series. The Viscount Who Loved Me followed a new female lead and the older brother of Daphne from the first book, and I have to say I enjoyed this dynamic a lot more than the previous books and I thought the romance was a little more natural and I thought the way everything ended up working out made way more sense. Basically, I cannot wait to keep reading these books and see where the series ends up and who marries who. I think it might become a new favourite genre for this year!

Characters book review

The main characters in The Viscount Who Loved Me are Anthony and Kate, a couple who comes about because Kate is the only person who can allow Anthony to marry her younger sister. I loved the personalities that shone through the story and really shaped their lives, I really felt connected to the two of them and sympathised with the separate issues that they were dealing with. I really loved the dynamic that develops between the families and I wanted to see how they ended up loving each other through the game of Pall Mall. Basically, the characters were what made this book so great and wonderful, and I think they outshone Daphne and Simon from the first one purely because it didn’t feel as dramatic!

best bits of book review

The best bit of The Viscount Who Loved Me was for me I think watching the banter and sass that built up between Anthony and Kate. I really loved the conversations that were all the way through this story, I also liked that they didn’t stop once they were married which I think was a sign of true love. I do think that Kate and Anthony might just be my favourite couple and I think they are probably more suited than Daphne and Simon which was an interesting read. I loved the intricacies of the relationship and seeing how they lived their lives.

worst bits of book review

The worst bit for me in The Viscount Who Loved Me was the ending, I think this might be an issue for most of the books but everything is always so neatly wrapped up in a bow and it’s not always realistic. I am hoping that further on in the series the happy endings will become more satisfying and more lifelike.

recommend book review

COMPLETELY. These books are such great guilty pleasures reads, there are such great characters and I cannot wait to see what happens to the rest of the family.
