The "dark, twisted, thought-provoking" (#1 New York Times bestseller Tami Hoag) international bestseller—first in the new series featuring Detective Helen Grace.
Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive.
It’s a game more twisted than any Detective Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn’t spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn’t believe them.
Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this case—with its seemingly random victims—has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense....

Eeny Meeny is a book that I picked up to fulfil one of my challenges this year. I have to say I knew it was a murder mystery but I wasn’t expecting the twists and turns that this book ended up taking me on or the gore and graphic nature of the plot. Basically, we follow the Major Crimes Team as they deal with a serial killer who traps two people and forces them to kill each other. I don’t know whether I fully understand all the characters and the way things work out, but it is only the first book in the series. So all that clarity might be in later books!

The main character in Eeny Meeny was definitely Detective Helen Grace, and we follow her and her team as they try and solve these horrific murders. I enjoyed watching her process and the way that she worked through the different evidence and the victims. I also loved the dynamic between her, Charlie and Mark. I thought it was interesting to see how they each not only looked up to her but also wanted to impress her. It was an interesting concept to add those things into a murder investigation. I also loved the different politics that are at play within it all, without spoiling anything I do wish this had been explored a little more in detail.

The best bit for me was definitely the way that the murders were carried out and the twists and turns that they took me on. I didn’t like the gore that went along with them but I think that the scenes are described so realistically and it made me sit on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen and how it was all going to end up. It was almost as though I was waiting for the killer to make a mistake and I enjoyed working through all of this with Helen and seeing where it was going to lead to next.

I think the worst bits of Eeny Meeny was how disconnected and rushed the storyline was at times. I struggled to figure out what was going on and how it comes into the story. Although there is some explanation at the end I don’t feel as though it’s explored as a whole. I just wanted more development and for things not to have been rushed and actually get to know what was happening throughout and have a little closure. I will say though I’m not sure whether this is something that would be explored in the later books!

Although I’m not going to be jumping back into the series at this point, not because I was put off but I didn’t enjoy it enough to prioritise it over all the other books that I currently have on my TBR. Eeny Meeny was definitely a good book for anyone who enjoys a gory crime book with a lot of different twists and turns.

Have you read any good crime books lately? Let me know what they were and link to any reviews you have! I’m really enjoying this genre at the moment so looking for stuff I should get into next!

Think this sounds a bit too creepy for me!
