2020 in Review

I love a New Year, everything feels as though it’s brand new and I feel a lot more motivated to start off. I also love the opportunity that it gives me to look back on the last year and reflect on what went well and what went poorly. I don’t think I would be the only one to say that 2020 has been a bit of crappy year for both me personally and reading wise. I feel as though the year started off well and then took a swan dive into the crap heap with both COVID and my mental health.

I still managed to do quite well with my challenges and I haven’t done too badly when it comes down to figures but I just don’t feel completely happy with the way everything turned out. Life can’t be perfect I suppose!

On with my year in review.

I’m a little bit ashamed of these figures and part of me wanted to leave them out but I thought I would share them in the hope that 2021 be the year that I sort it out and do better with my diversity.

Challenge stats

At the start of last year I took on the mammoth task of taking part in a whole load of challenges. Some of them such as the library challenge fell by the wayside but the others haven’t done too badly.

Popsugar Reading Challenge

I really wanted to get through this challenge because I had heard so much about it and it seemed like a really fun one to be a part of.

I am happy to say that I managed 49 out of 50 prompts with the only one I missed was “The first book you touch on a shelf with your eyes closed”

The Blacklist Reading Challenge

I actually forgot I was taking part in this challenge but when I looked over the books I have read that were published in or before 2018 the number was actually quite good.

I ended 2020 reading 60 backlist books!

52 Books in 52 Weeks

This was something that I really wanted to work on because it seemed like a really good opportunity to read so many different genres.

I didn’t do quite as well as I thought I was going to and ended up with 48 out of 52. With the missed prompts being “A book with a Foreword”, “A book with illustrations”, “A book with recipes inside” & “Borrowed from a friend”.

A-Z Reading Challenge

I definitely thought that this was going to be a lot easier than it turned out to be. I don’t know whether I would do it again purely because I don’t feel I got anything out of it.

I managed to get 24 out of 26 letter and I only missed “X” and “Z”.

Audiobook Reading Challenge

I am a marmite type of person when it comes to audiobooks. I’m either loving them or hating them. The end of the year has been a brilliant boon for me and the final number is: 30

Blogging and social media goals

I really fell off the bandwagon, life got busy, lockdown happened and my life fell apart so I’m trying not to be too hard on myself.

  • I am aiming to hit 500 followers by the end of 2020
    • I didn’t manage this one, but I have started making a dent, it might be one for 2021
  • I want to have more consistent daily stats
    • My blog traffic has really grown this year, something I am SO proud and excited about and hope to see continue in 2021
  • Be more active within the community and make more of an effort to read more blogs and comment on at least 3 a day.
    • Nope, I think this one fell apart because my scheduling became the priority and I was constantly trying to catch up with myself.
  • Have a posting schedule of 3 times a week.
    • YES! I managed to do this, I only missed two days and that was around Christmas when things got SUPER hectic with family.
  • Be one month ahead of myself with content scheduling
    • HAHAHHA, as if this was ever going to happen. God, 2020 Jordann was so over the top optimistic.
  • Follow at least 100 more relevant blogs.
    • I may not have been as active as I have wanted to be but I have enjoyed finding likeminded blogs and reading posts here and there when I got a chance.
  • Copy all of my reviews over to Goodreads
    • Another big fat nope. I really need to, but it just got left by the wayside this year, so I might have that as a goal in 2021.
  • Get my book database up to date
    • Goodness this is another nope. I guess it’s a boring job and I just haven’t gotten around to finishing it. I have been using it though for all my new reviews so that’s something
  • Write more than just book reviews.
    • I’m crossing this one off, I have written an awful lot of reviews this year but I was taking part in the Top Ten Tuesday for a while but I am so proud of how many reviews I have written this year I want to celebrate it.
  • Work on the site’s SEO
    • This one is a little tough, I started making moves towards it and I can definitely see the results in some cases but in a sitewide thing there’s a lot to do.

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Use at least one social media account daily, not including Instagram
    • Nopeeee, I ran out of steam, nobody tells you when you start a blog that social media is going to take over you life whether you like it or not.
  • Take part in the 365 Day Photo Challenge on Instagram
    • There was so much stress to do with this challenge and it caused me a lot of anxiety and actually stopped me sleeping at some points. So yeah this one went bye bye.
  • Look into some classes on Skillshare to do with using social media.
    • I’ve actually paused my subscription for a while but I did go through and do a couple of classes and other ones to do with content marketing at the start of the year.
  • Make sure to customise the Publicize feature on all my posts
    • Nopeeeee. I started off so well but this fell off the wagon as well as I started playing catch up!
  • BE MORE CONSISTENT
Chat with me about books

So that was my year! I hope your 2020 has been productive and good one! Here’s to an even better 2021!
