Stolen by Starlight is a full-length, fated-mates sci-fi romance with lots of steam and a guaranteed happily ever after. If you like resourceful human heroines and the arrogant alien kings who adore them, you’ll fall in love with this series.

We’re back on the spicy book train and this one was another free download a couple weeks ago. Stolen by Starlight although marketed as a dirty book felt as though it was a little light on the sexy content and the world and plot felt more of a priority. It was a surprise and not one that I’m entirely sure pays off to be honest. My expectations weren’t met but it wasn’t a completely wasted experienced.

Characters in Stolen in Starlight

One of my biggest issues with Stolen in Starlight was how the characters reacted in certain situations and the lack of chemistry but also the presence of sex. Ada started out as an okay character and I enjoyed watching her relationship with her sister. It went very quickly downhill when she reached the alien planet, she suddenly lost all the interesting parts and she became an odd mixture of awkwardness and horniness. It was frustrating to watch her lose everything that made her a central person in the story.

Lothan on the other hand did not even have a decent personality to begin with but he did grow on me. I think that was his saving grace, was that although he started as a brute, he grew into something more. The language barrier was a bit of an issue and wall when it came to the characters building in depth and interest level.

Bad bits in Stolen by Starlight

I think the bad bits all come down to the lack of depth and there being too much going on within the storyline for them all to be fleshed out fully. Stolen by Starlight tried to be a spicy book, chick lit and an action book all in one. The only issue is that they did none of them particularly well, the focus should have been kept on one and for that to have been done really well. There was also a lot of confusing back and forth with the characters with the romance becoming more and more of a fight rather than less.

Good bits

I really enjoyed the cultural and setting within this book. It made the lulls in the drama and action more palpable and it definitely feels like there is more to explore. I enjoyed watching as the humans figured out their way in this new world and also the implications of their being there. The politics between emperor and religion added a much needed dimension into the story and made up for loss expectations with the other parts of the plot line and characters.

What now?

This is yet another series that I don’t think I will be in a rush to be reading. I enjoyed the first book and I think there’s potential but I just don’t know that I’m interested enough to jump into the next books. It feels like a shame and I somehow hope that I might find the time to read the other books.
