Books I Thought I Would Love… But Didn’t

There have definitely been books this year that I really thought I was going to love but they ended up falling short and I was left underwhelmed. I really wanted to share them and keep them all in one place. Maybe I’ll do an update at the end of the year.

  • Keep You Safe – I so wanted to love this one but I found the ridiculous anti-vaxx position in this book to be revolting and it filled me with more rage than anything else.
  • The Gravity of Us – I really enjoyed the premise of this one but I think this one was a little underdeveloped and there was a lot I wanted to see.
  • 11/22/63 – I actually DNF’d this one, there was just something about the book that didn’t hold my attention and I found myself getting bored.
  • Interview With The Vampire – This one went on for FOREVER!! It completely threw me off for the rest of the month because I spent so long reading it.
  • Heartless – I still can’t believe I didn’t love this one but the romance ruined this one for me, I just didn’t believe in the characters and I wished there had been more in this one.
  • The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – I got SO lost in this one and I had no idea who was who or what they were doing and I just couldn’t understand it all. I was thinking about rereading but I already know the reveal so not sure there would be much point.
  • Daisy Jones & the Six – Another one where I heard so many rave reviews but I just didn’t love the characters. It was a tough one and I wish I had loved it but it just wasn’t for me.
  • Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore – This was completely different to what was I was expecting and I hated the direction it ended up going in. There was so much wasted potential in this book.
  • Normal People – I really don’t understand what this one was trying to do, there didn’t seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to the story. Plus the characters were irritating!
  • Fahrenheit 451 – This was supposed to be a slam dunk but I struggled through most of it and I thought the pay off wasn’t great which was disappointing!

  1. I also felt that way about Daisy Jones and the Six when I read it. I think there was probably just too much hype for me.

  2. I totally understand you not liking the Stephen King. I trudged through it but didn’t really it as it was really boring. I loved the time travel and the romance but found the Lee Harvey Oswald parts so drawn out. Apparently his books aren’t edited which might explain it.
