Books I DNF’d
This year has been so on and off for me for reading a lot of the time and a big part of that is that I have been struggling to find audiobooks that I love and some of the books I just haven’t been interested in. I wish I didn’t have too many books to put on the list but I thought I would share them with you all.

- 11/22/63 – This was one that I really wanted to pick back up but I just didn’t feel the impulse and after reading quite a few pages I was thoroughly bored.
- Safe House – As someone who lives on the Isle of Man this book wound me the wrong way. There is a lot more to the island than motorbikes and the TT and I just couldn’t get into the story.
- Daisy Jones and the Six – Another one where I was so bored and not connected to the characters at ALL. I’m glad I moved past this one and moved onto better things, instead of trying to persevere.
- Hidden Figures – The history in this one was really interesting but unfortunately the events weren’t linear, and I really didn’t enjoy the way the narrative was told.
- 1984 – I tried listening to the audiobook and I started to lose the thread of what was happening. So I have picked up the e-book up and I’m hoping that one will sit better!

What books have you DNF’d this year? Let me know in the comments!

Wow, you live on the Isle of Man? I hate reading books about where I live (Birmingham) that are stereotyped or plain wrong (like writing the number of a bus that famously goes in a circle and having the character get it into town why oh why, etc!) so I am with you these. I rarely DNF as I don’t seem to start bad ones but I had two in a row earlier in the year, Roxanne Gay’s “Not that Bad” was one of them, just too traumatic to read.
Yes I do! It’s a lovely place and there is SO much more to it than the TT so it’s annoying for that to be the only defining factor! A lot of these have been Audiobooks so I might try and pick them up in physical form. I’m hoping the rest of the year goes more smoothly. <3e
I’m quite interested in 11/22/63 — I was two and JFK lying in state is my first memory. Loved Hidden Figures, took place in my state. Daisy Jones has turned me off; not interested in that era.
I was really interested in 11/22/63 but unfortunately I just found it to be super repetitive and boring. Glad you liked Hidden Figures! <3
That’s one of the first negative things I’ve heard about Daisy Jones and the Six! I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy these books.
I just didn’t connect with the characters and I tried the audiobook because everyone raved about it but just wasn’t for me 🙁
Wow how cool you live on Isle of Man! I am a huge motorcycle nut, and have travelled from Canada to the TT twice. While I love the TT and it holds a special place in my heart I definitely understand how you can feel the way you do. I was lucky enough to stay with people who live there and got to see lots of historical sites and there is definitely a lot more to the island that just the TT and other motorcycle races.
