Struggling with both PTSD and the trauma of his ex-wife’s infidelity, retired Marine Wesley Holt seeks a simple civilian life. His favorite waitress at the Perfect Diner secretly stirs his heart. Yet Wes—scarred by betrayal and racked by guilt over his fallen comrades in Afghanistan—stays quiet, convinced he can never love again…or be loved.
Waitress and single mother Carlie Stewart hides fear behind her smile. Her ex-husband has escaped from prison and wants their son—and revenge. When the fugitive arrives to wreak havoc, Wes insists Carlie and her son stay with him for protection. Finally daring to let her guard down, Carlie divulges her dark past to Wes, and to her surprise, Wes appreciates her strengths and longs to trust her with his tattered heart. The safer they feel with each other, the more trust and passion grow. But can they overcome the demons in their pasts—and the heartbreak they’ve carried into the present—to build a lasting future together?
The Twisted Road to You is the fourth book in the Perfect, Indiana series, and I can honestly say that I really enjoyed the story but there is a definite formula to these books and is the fourth one I’ve read it was so predictable how the plot was going to end! That being said I genuinely enjoyed reading it, and this series will be one that’s on my list of guilty pleasures for a long time to come. I will say that this one had a more of a unique twist, especially with the characters and the way everything comes together.
I loved the fact that although PTSD and the issues with veterans came into it wasn’t the main conflict throughout the story. It made The Twisted Road to You different from the other books in the series, and not only that it was a lot more interesting to read. It made the characters seem different from the previous books and I think it added more depth to the story and characters. I also liked the way everything panned out especially the ending. The fact that all the storylines from the previous plots all tie in together, the only thing I would have liked would to see more of Ceejay and Noah’s story.
I do think the fact that the US Marshals were involved and the crimes surrounding that was underplayed. Plus I think the climax of the story was a little anti-climatic. In fact, I hadn’t realised what had happened until afterwards, which is surprising seeing as it was a big moment. I do wish that The Twisted Road to You had spent more time building the drama surrounding that instead of the romance element. But then again these books are supposed to be cheesy smut so I’m not sure I was expecting anything else.
I would recommend The Twisted Road to You purely because I have really enjoyed reading both this book and the entire series. I do think you shouldn’t expect too much from both the story and the characters. It’s all very formulaic and two dimensional. There are definitely better books out there but these books have been managed to drag me out of a reading slump, which can be a hard thing to do.
Are there any series that you read purely for the enjoyment knowing that the writing could be a whole lot better? Let me know in the comments!
