May Wrap Up | 7 books read

2016, wrap up / Saturday, June 4th, 2016

It’s time for my May Wrap Up, and I had a good month of reading this month and managed to get through a total of 7 books.

The list of books in my May Wrap Up

  1. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
  2. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
  3. Hollow City
  4. A Darker Shade of Magic
  5. A Gathering of Shadows
  6. Me Before You
  7. The Raven Boys

I started The Final Empire, but didn’t get to finish it.

This month I didn’t quite hit my targets in terms of the books I set off to read, but I’ve had an extremely busy month so my May Wrap Up was hit, we got a puppy and there was a lot of transitioning to do with that. Declan buggered off to Ireland for a couple of days leaving me a single dog-parent which was a lot, and there was very little time to read. These are all excuses but I’m sticking with them, because they’re all mine.

Firstly, I should have listened to my friend about Carry On. I had so many problems with this book that it’s unreal. The first being that it feels like half a story and the romance was AWFUL. I wrote an entire review here. Go read about my rantings and never pick this book up.

Then I reread Miss Peregrine’s. I loved this book, I did the first time I read it and this was no different. I love the photographs and the way that they are integrated within each other. The premise of these books are strong and adore the characters. Recommend a 100%.

Hollow City was next on the list. I have to say that this wasn’t my favourite and I was a little disappointed with where the series was going to be honest. I struggled with the character development and the way the story progressed, it was slow and uneventful. I haven’t done a review of these two because I thought I would do a complete series review, but if you’re interested in single book reviews then let me know.

A Darker Shade of Magic. I don’t even have words for how much I love this book, the story, the characters and the plot line. Wowzers. There is so much in this book that just can’t be explained in the normal way. If you haven’t pick it up, the writing won’t disappoint and you’ll be transported to a whole new world. Full review here.

The sequel – A Gathering of Shadows. Even better. The characters come into their own and the different aspects and how they entwine with each other is fantastic. I think I will write a review just on this book because I have to vent my emotions somewhere, so stay tuned for that one.

Meanwhile whilst reading these physical copies I was also listening to my trusty audible app. The first story I dove into was Me Before You and it broke me, into tiny little incoherent pieces. I was on the work bus at the time and I had to stop myself having a breakdown. Review is imminent. Pick the damn book up.

Then I tried The Raven Boys, I finished it. I don’t really know what to say about this book. I didn’t hate it but I have no clue what the hell happened throughout the whole thing. I’ve downloaded the second one in the vain hope that I’ll finally understand. It’s one of the hottest YA series out there and I hate not being in on it.

So not a too shabby month for my May Wrap Up I suppose and here ends my wrap up. I’m 300 odd pages through The Final Empire and LOVING it. So I’m looking forward to finishing that!

Let me know what books you read this month and whether or not there was anything you would recommend! Let me know in the comments!
