May TBR

2016, tbr / Friday, May 6th, 2016

Is it really time for my May TBR already? The year can’t be already half gone. It’s beyond real to me. I haven’t really put much thought into the books I want to put in my May TBR. I have a few books which have been jumping out at me for the last couple of weeks, and there are a few rereads that I need to complete – just bought the sequel months after I read the first one.

I think this month I’m going to up my list to six. I have a lot that I want to read and I’m going to challenge myself a little more. So lets get on with the show.

1. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I am currently reading this book and I have to say I’m not impressed, it’s definitely not one of my favourites, in fact I’m struggling. I don’t want to pick it up and read it. Which is such a shame because Fangirl was my favourite Rainbow Rowell book. If you didn’t know this book follows the fanfiction that was throughout Fangirl, so the main characters are Simon Snow and Baz. I don’t know what it is about this book, I’m just not excited for it.

2. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I have heard nothing but great things about this book and the spin off series. I’ve also had it sat on my shelf for a really long time and I just haven’t picked it up. I’m actually really excited to read this book and its one that I really want to make sure I get too this month. As far as I’m aware it’s based in a world where the bad guy has won, which could be an interesting premise.

3. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This is a reread for me and one of my favourites. I’ve just bought the sequel and want to immerse myself back into the world before I start to read about the new adventures. From what I can remember its about a little boy who has been thrown into a world where children float and have no heads. It’s weird and wonderful and one that I really enjoy.

4. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

This is the sequel of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and another one that I’m really excited to jump into. I have no idea what happens and where it picks up but I have really high expectations for this book and I hope that it holds up for the rest of the series and doesn’t suffer from the second book curse.

5. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab

One of my favourite books from one of my favourite authors and once again a reread. I love this story, it follows a blood magician travelling through the different Londons with different levels of magic. You meet a thief and together they make an unlikely team. It really is one of my favourites, I love the story and the characters and I can’t wait to read all about them again. It really is a one of a kind book.

6. A Gathering of Shadows

The much awaited sequel, I think that I might get round to this one in my May TBR. I really don’t know what’s going to happen in this one, and I don’t really want to. I like going into books blind and without preconceptions of what might happen. So I’m hoping that there is going to be a lot more of Kell and a deeper storyline than before.

So that’s what I’m planning to read this month, I’m so hoping for a good reading month this month, but life has a way of throwing something my way. If you want to buy any of these books, just click on the title of each of the books for a link to The Book Depository.

Let me know what you’re reading this month and whether you would recommend any for me!
