Maus | Can’t Wait Wednesday #13
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, created to discuss books that book bloggers haven’t read yet and they’re usually books yet to be released. I ran across it when looking for new content ideas for The Book Blog Life, and it looked like so much fun. Playing by the rules didn’t last all that long and we’re back to books that have been sat on my shelves for way too long. The Complete Maus (Maus, #1-2) by Art Spiegelman
Genres: Historical Fiction
Published by Penguin Books
Combined for the first time here are Maus I: A Survivor's Tale and Maus II - the complete story of Vladek Spiegelman and his wife, living and surviving in Hitler's Europe. By addressing the horror of the Holocaust through cartoons, the author captures the everyday reality of fear and is able to explore the guilt, relief and extraordinary sensation of survival - and how the children of survivors are in their own way affected by the trials of their parents. A contemporary classic of immeasurable significance.
This book has been on my shelves for so long and I thought it would have been one that I would have read as soon as I got it and I didn’t. I really want to though, and I’m super interested in the concept. I’m really hoping to get to it before the end of the year! I think I’m on a real historical fiction kind of kick at the moment, so this would fit in perfectly.
Have you read Maus? Is it worth the hype? Let me know in the comments!
