June 2017 TBR

This is a busy month for both me and my husband, there will be a lot of early mornings and dog walking so reading isn’t going to be a huge priority this month. That being said I want to read as much as I can so although there’s not going to be a lot on my June 2017 TBR it’s only a guiding list and who knows how many I might actually get to!

On with my June 2017 TBR.

American Gods

30165203A storm is coming…

Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the magic day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life.

But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow’s best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A trickster and rogue, Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow does himself.

Life as Wednesday’s bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined—it is a job that takes him on a dark and strange road trip and introduces him to a host of eccentric characters whose fates are mysteriously intertwined with his own. Along the way Shadow will learn that the past never dies; that everyone, including his beloved Laura, harbors secrets; and that dreams, totems, legends, and myths are more real than we know. Ultimately, he will discover that beneath the placid surface of everyday life a storm is brewing—an epic war for the very soul of America—and that he is standing squarely in its path.

I was actually sent this from my wonderful best friend for my birthday and I’ve just started it. I love Neil Gaiman’s writing style so I’m hoping this will become one of my favourites along with the others on my shelf. Plus there’s now a Amazon Prime TV show based on this book so there’s that motivation!

Shades of Magic

22055262Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

I wanna reread the first two books in the series and then start on the new release which has been sat on my bookshelf for longer than it should have been. So I’m committing. This month will be the month that I finally make time for them and get them off my TBR. Not that I’m complaining because I love the world and the characters so it’s not a hardship.
