This month has been a good month for reading and I have to say I’m pretty proud of my January 2018 Wrap Up. If this is what the rest of the year is going to be like for reading bring it on! My TBR list doesn’t stand a chance. I read all the books on my January TBR including the one book from my 2018 books I need to read challenge. So all in all a success.
Plus I found some favourites this month and I also unhauled a book, well I will when I get chance to run down the charity shop! Enough procrastinating and on with my January 2018 Wrap Up – the first of a new year!
This is the latest book in the Throne of Glass saga and it was one that I wasn’t particularly excited about (maybe for it to be over) and I was proven right, it is the only book in the series to score less that 5 stars and it left me disappointed. I’m hoping that this isn’t the beginning of the end for this series. It wasn’t the way I wanted to kick of my year and my January 2018 wrap up.
You may have guessed if you had read my review on this book that it was the one I unhauled. I didn’t click with the story and least of all the characters. I think it is safe to say that John Green’s writing is just not for me. His characters always fall short and I end up struggling with the writing. Another bad book for my January 2018 Wrap Up. HOWEVER it was the first book of my 2018 books I need to read challenge, so I can tick that one off the list!
This was by far my favourite read on my January 2018 wrap up. I loved the intrigue and the politics and the characters and the general plot line. I went straight out and bought the second one. I have heard that the series gets worse though, which will not make me happy, but I’m willing to try if only for the fact that the cliffhanger was HUGE.
My last physical read of the month and this one left me a little confused and unsure if I’m honest. I enjoyed reading certain aspects of it but I felt there was very little flow between events and I still have very little understanding as to what happened. I’m not sure whether I will carry on with the series, but it wasn’t the greatest book I’ve read.
This month was a great month for audiobooks, I listened and finished two, something that never really happens. Especially with how busy I’ve been getting at work.
I carried on my love for the Poirot books and listened to another two. I’m really enjoying how short and snappy they are but also how detailed the story is. These books, in general, make me smile, especially with the way that Poirot deals with the crime and reveal. I hope to read a couple more in the months to come.
The Name of the Wind
This is another book on my 2018 must-read books, and I’m currently around the 50-page mark, it is completely different to what I was expecting but I’m enjoying it all the same. It takes a little concentration to work out what the hell is happening sometimes, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Another of the Poirot books, and I have to say I miss Hastings, just a little. I have read online that if you only read one of the Poirot books it should be this one. So we shall see it if it leaves me reeling. I am enjoying the detail that’s been put into the story and the murder, so it’s not a complete loss.
I have had a busy month, and trying to adjust to being back on a full work schedule has been hard. PLUS on top of all that I’m now studying for my second module which includes writing an assignment so I’ve been bogged down with that. It’s been a tough month, but with my reading back on top and everything else going to plan it’s been one to be remembered. I think this is probably the best place to mention it, but going forward (this week is an exception because of wrap-ups and TBRs) I’m only going to be posting twice a week for definite. That isn’t to say there won’t be a third post but only if I can manage it. I have a lot on these next couple of months and I want to focus my energy in the right way! Hope you don’t mind!
How did your January go? Has it been like mine and seems to have gone on for absolutely forever? Let me know!
