Ever the Hunted
This is another that I found whilst scrolling through Goodreads. Ever the Hunted sounds exactly like a book I would love to read. Bounty hunters, bows and arrows and a hunt for a killer. My perfect recipe for a good book is someone with unknown potential which apparently this book has in spades.
Seventeen year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, the legendary bounty hunter for the King of Malam—that is, until her father is murdered. Now outcast and alone and having no rights to her father’s land or inheritance, she seeks refuge where she feels most safe: the Ever Woods. When Britta is caught poaching by the royal guard, instead of facing the noose she is offered a deal: her freedom in exchange for her father’s killer.
Doesn’t that synopsis sound great? My only worry would be that they are trying to fit too much into one narrative. There are a lot of different threads to this story and I’m interested to see how they all come together. It’s a risk but maybe they can pull it off, it’s the first in a series so it doesn’t have to all come together at the end.
I think the idea of having a girl that’s good with a bow and arrow is becoming overdone. It’s almost becoming a trope. So I’m hoping that they use it wisely and in an original manner. I don’t know whether I could read another Katniss type character.
