Books I Read at School | Top Ten Tuesday #10

It’s my first freebie of my Top Ten Tuesday! I thought about doing the books I hated at school, but I thought I would do five of each, one’s that I loved and ones that I hated. I am also including university in this, because I read some really great books during my course.

Books I Loved

I did a Vampire Fiction module at uni which is why two of the books of my five are vampire books. It was one of my favourite modules and I loved reading the older books and seeing a different aspect to a mythology that was completely oversaturated when I was a kid. The Kite Runner was my introduction to Khaled Hosseini and I’m so glad I read it in high school! Norwegian Wood took me by complete surprise and it’s still one of my favourite books to this day!

Books I Hated

These were all books that I couldn’t connect with, both the characters and the storylines. I think they were all massive disappointments, especially The Great Gatsby – nothing happened in that book until the last two chapters! Plus, Lord of the Rings, I hated Frodo, like seriously hated Frodo which made the whole thing a little unbearable to be honest.

Let me know what books you loved at school and which books you hated. This list turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be!

I hated pretty much everything I read for school-the only one I remember liking is To Kill A Mockingbird.

I think it’s really hard to read at school especially as they push so much meaning into a book that it can feel like a chore instead of something fun!

Ah definitely! Also I just wasn’t interested in anything they were giving us to read, classics have never really been my thing. Thank you πŸ™‚

Oh, man! Gatsby is one of my favorites. πŸ™‚ Just goes to show not every book is for everyone, you know? I can’t stand Wuthering Heights and I know that’s a big favorite for a lot of people. I loved The Kite Runner, too. Have you read any of his other books? Here’s my TTT.

Yeah, some people in my class raved about Gatsby, just not for me. I thought it was a little overdone. I love Wuthering Heights, I just wished they would have gotten rid of the bit in the beginning with the weird guy with no place in the story! The Kite Runner is one of my all time favourites! I’ve now read all of his current books and they each blew me away, I mean A Thousand Splendid Suns broke me.

Interview with the Vampire is great! I haven’t read it in a long time, but it was the first vampire book I ever read. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday

I definitely need to reread it I think, it’s been so long and I believe there are other books in the series now!

Carmilla is on my radar, but I haven’t read it yet!

I was really shocked to see how much I liked it. I’m not a huge fan of old books, I think the way they’re written is verbose and dense. But Carmilla will always have a special pplace in my heart!

Haha, a few of the books on your hate list are books I loved! Great Expectations in particular. I haven’t read any of the ones that you loved, but I’ve always been curious about The Kite Runner.

I remember Great Expectations being unbearably dull, and I’ve tried to read Dickens since and couldn’t get through it all. The Kite Runner is a fantastic book, you should definitely check it out when you get the chance!

I loved Pride and Prejudice and hated Lord of the Flies and Old Man and the Sea! I loved Lord of the Rings but I didn’t read that one in school! I love your choice for the TTT school freebie!! This is my favorite take on the topic so far πŸ˜€

I quite liked Lord of the Flies actually, not enough for it to make the list but it wasn’t the worst book I read at school! I think if Lord of the Rings didn’t have Frodo I would have appreciated it more.

Thank you so much for the comment <3 xo

Oooh, this is an interesting list. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of them. Which one would you recommend the most?

Definitely either The Kite Runner or Norwegian Wood. Those books had such an impact on me it’s insane!
