We all have books that we would rather love the villains than the heroes. In fact there are books where the book villains that make my heart swoon like never before. There are the characters that you love to hate and hate to love. They make a world of evil and unhappiness almost seem appealing, if only you could spend all your time with the book villain.
I have a list of these wonderful creatures, you know the ones that you can’t stopped thinking about and wishing things were different.
The Darkling from The Grisha Series
If you have read any of my reviews for this series you would know my disdain for this series and the characters. God how I hated everything about the main character romance in those books. However The Darkling was one of my favourite characters of all time, and just because he’s a bad guy doesn’t make me any less in love with him. Now don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t want to live with him on a long term basis. But he is a book villain who will forever have a place in my heart.
Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses
I’m not going to say too much about him, because I don’t think I have to say an awful lot. He is dark and dreamy, he has that god awful bad boy vibe that makes you want to kiss and hit him all at the same time. Which is why he is one of my favourite characters in the entire series. Plus who needs a husband when you can have a book villain like Rhysand whenever you want to!
Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows
This guy is my favourite anti-hero that there ever was. He has the bad boy vibe, the ‘I don’t care’ attitude and the skills that make even the hardest people cringe. But there’s this loyalty, this unwavering sense that if you have his back he’ll have yours no matter what. I love that about him, in fact all of his quirks make him a better character and that makes him all the more swoon-worthy.
Victor from Vicious
I adore this book for the use of its anti-heroes and book villains. In fact just thinking about Victor and the way he handles everything makes my heart beat that little bit faster. This story is well written and takes you on so many twists and turns, you really don’t know what you think of him until the end, and even then you’re not sure. I think that uncertainty makes him seem more than dangerous. It’s an attractive quality, healthy or not.
Warden from The Bone Season
This alien thing is a despicable thing to say the least. They kidnap people for their own gain and they have created a whole new city in order to do that. HOWEVER and this is a big however, he steals my heart all the same. He is a bad bad person but there is also something else about him. A hidden soul, that makes you think differently. You are just waiting for him to show everyone how lovely he can really be.
Just writing this list makes me want to reread all these series – well okay maybe not the Grisha series because boy were those characters annoying!
Are there book villains that you just enjoy even though you shouldn’t? Even though it should make you feel really awful? Let me know which ones make your heart flutter in the comments below.
