In the second novel in award-winning author Barbara Longley’s sweet and sexy Haneys series, an introverted electrician rewires a young widow’s apartment—and attempts to mend her heart.
Painfully shy electrician Wyatt Haney is a pro at complex wiring jobs, but when it comes to women, he just can’t seem to make a lasting connection. If he had even half the courage of the superhero he penned for his comic book series, he’d finally be able to talk to his beautiful neighbor, Kayla—and stop hiding behind a hoodie. When an electrical fire breaks out in Kayla’s apartment, Wyatt comes to the rescue, sparking an attraction neither of them expected.
Kayla Malone has had enough surprises. First an unplanned pregnancy at eighteen, then losing her husband in war, and now a fire in her apartment. Thank God her hot neighbor has the skills to help. As Wyatt repairs Kayla’s apartment and forges a relationship with her son, he also makes inroads to her heart. It’s clear that Wyatt has fallen for Kayla, but is she willing to risk another heartbreak—or will she ignore the electricity between them and miss her happy ending?
Yup, another one of these guilty pleasure reads! Whatever You Need follows Sam Haney’s younger brother Wyatt and his crush on the single mother that lives in his building. You can see where this story is heading without me saying more. I loved reading this one and I thought that the relationships within this story were really wonderfully done. There is obviously the formulaic nature of the plot and the conflicts that happen, but this one warmed my heart in a completely different way than I was expecting. I think the way the formula has been applied to these characters has a completely different effect than any of the other books.
I think the best thing about Whatever You Need would be the growing relationship with Brady. I think that’s the big change in this book. I will say the way everything happens is a little sudden especially for someone who has a child to think about and consider. I think this is sated a little with how great Wyatt was with Brady but it could have been a totally different situation if things had ended badly and that was a little problematic for me. But then again it was never going to end badly was it, it wasn’t that kind of book.
I will say the ending really warmed my heart in a way that all of the others didn’t. I think the way that comics were integrated into Whatever You Need was a really great way to work through some of the plot points. It also gave Wyatt’s character more depth and something other than being a builder to focus on. I really enjoyed the way that comics were used as a way to build and develop relationships all the way through the book. Plus it was lovely to see him have passion and something to focus on. It was a really well done part of the story.
I still recommend this series. I love the characters and I’m actually really looking forward to carrying on reading not only the rest of this series but the other books by Barbara Longley. I am taking a little bit of a break I think the formulaic nature of these stories can become a little trying at times and I don’t want to end up hating them for the very reason I love them!
Do you ever need to take a break from a series in order to enjoy them more? Let me know which ones in the comments!
