The Hobbit | Can’t Wait Wednesday #22

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, created to discuss books that book bloggers haven’t read yet and they’re usually books yet to be released. I ran across it when looking for new content ideas for The Book Blog Life, and it looked like so much fun.

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when it was first published in 1937. Now recognized as a timeless classic, this introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth recounts of the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent. The text in this 372-page paperback edition is based on that first published in Great Britain by Collins Modern Classics (1998), and includes a note on the text by Douglas A. Anderson (2001). Unforgettable!

I have actually watched one of the Hobbit films but haven’t watched the others. I wanted to read the ending before watching it. I just haven’t made the time to read it. I think the problem is that I wasn’t a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and I’m worried that I’m not going to enjoy and I’m going to feel like I’ve wasted my time!

Have you read The Hobbit? Did you enjoy it more than The Lord of the Rings? Let me know in the comments!

I read The Hobbit after the first Lord of the Rings movie came out and enjoyed it. I admit though I loved the Lord of the Rings books even more. Hopefully you will like The Hobbit even if you didn’t care for Lord of the Rings. I think they are different enough you just might. Hopefully. 🙂 Have a great week!
