The Worst Books of 2017

2017 has been a mixed bag when it comes to my reading, if you read my blog post about my 2017 Goodreads Challenge you’ll know that reading hasn’t been my only priority this year. I thought I would do a short recap on the books that were the bottom of the list this time around. I still can’t believe it’s time for my worst books of 2017 list!

Make sure you check out my best books of 2017 list coming later on in the week!

Thirteen Reasons Why

Thirteen Reasons Why is probably the book that most deserves to be in my worst books of 2017. Even now thinking about the story and the characters rile me to no end. I think the worst thing about this book was definitely its portrayal of mental illness and suicide as a whole, it manages to glamourise committing suicide with one of the most unlikable characters. Overall this book sucks, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone reads or has anything to do with it.

Chest of Bone

I think this book was a misguided choice on my part. I found Chest of Bone on Netgalley after being won over by the blurb. The biggest problem I had with this book was how completely confusing the plot line was and how underdeveloped some of the story was. By the end, I was so annoyed by the main character that I was glad the book was over!

Starcrossed is the first book in I think a trilogy, but it was also the book that convinced me not to go any further with the others. I love a good romance subplot, and I love a well-done twist on Romeo and Juliet, this had none of those things. The characters were underdeveloped as was the plot line and story. I just wish there was something more than the tropes. A book well deserving of its place on my worst books of 2017 list.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared

The Hundred-Year-Old Man was a book I wanted to love, and one that I thought I was going to. The main reason this book is on the worst books of 2017 list is the humour, it was awful and over the top. It ruined the great moments of the books and I found it unbearable in the end. Not a great read, and I was really disappointed.

The Summoning

This was another series that really deserves to be on my worst books of 2017, purely because nothing happens, no character is developed and the plot had the worst ending. It was a complete waste of my time. I kinda wish I had left it at number one and read something else!
