KATE HARKER isn't afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she's good at it.

AUGUST FLYNN once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims' inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

Our Dark Duet is the second in a series so you should definitely check out my This Savage Song book review first!

I was so excited to jump right into this book and I can’t say I was disappointed either. I will say that this plotline was slightly weaker than This Savage Song. But the characters seemed to battle some really interesting personal struggles throughout the entire story. There was an awful lot of growth and development that by the end they were completely different characters and it was so natural and subtle that you barely noticed it happening.

I think the subtle politics that were running through this book was one of my favourite things, it was a highlight to see inside another territory and the way they were working and how they kept people safe. Plus it was a highlight to see how Verity was handling losing one of its leaders. The way that people react in uncertain times is something that is really well portrayed in this book, it shows the horrible side of human nature.

The relationship with Kate and August was really interesting. I loved the way they became what they each needed at that time. The way the dynamic shifted and changed it made the entire book more interesting and well put together. I really enjoyed the way they both worked for each other and trusted each other.

I think my favourite character in Our Dark Duet was August. I think the struggles he found himself in were so well written and really brought out one of the more vulnerable sides to him. There was so much depth to his character by the end, that it felt like he was a totally different character! It was wonderful watching him transition into accepting his monster ways.

My least favourite character in Our Dark Duet was the entire group called The Wardens. I just thought their presence was a little confusing. They weren’t well rounded enough and I think there was so much work to be done to make them part of the team. I just felt there was so much potential for them that wasn’t explored.

I would still recommend this series, there are definitely some interesting points throughout and I really enjoyed the politics and watching the situations develop. Plus the characters have taken on a world of their own and it was wonderful to read all about them.
