This year I set myself the goal of reading the entire Song of Ice and Fire series. It was good to have some kind of direction when I was picking which books I wanted to read each month. It was lovely knowing that I had something other than a number of books to work towards. Plus they had been sat on my shelf for so long – it was time. Plus I did it, I managed to complete my personal reading goal for this year and it was a wonderful feeling, a wonderful achievement in my own right.
Well this year I want to do the same kind of thing, so I’m setting 2017 personal reading goals. I don’t have a series that has been sat on my shelf for a long time, but I do have a series of books that I want to read and make a priority. The Terry Pratchett Discworld series, there are so many books, but I thought I would aim to read at least half of the forty odd books out there. So I’m aiming for 25 of them, I know it’s a lot but they aren’t massively long books. It’s a good number to challenge myself with.
I love this series and the satirical nature of the stories, I’m hoping it’s going to be a big success. Then when it gets to the end of my 2017 personal reading goals, I’ll be able to take a look at the series as a whole and decide whether or not I want to carry on with the rest of them. 25 is a good number to figure out whether there are more good books than ones I’m not too keen on.
In terms of my 2017 Goodreads challenge I think I will do the same as last year and set my challenge number to reasonably low and see what happens. I wrote an entire blog post about it here. I loved having the freedom of not having to make up numbers in a mad panic.
Do you have any 2017 personal reading goals? What are they? Do you have a series that needs prioritising or books you have been putting off for so long?
