The Shack Book Review

Overall I think I would have received this book better if I was religious. Some of it preachy and at times unbearable. I did appreciate some of the thought process about the way the world works and the reason for the suffering. I think it dealt with a lot of people’s thoughts about God very well. It answers a lot of questions in a nice manner. Story/plot The tragedy that surrounds this book is truly awful, but I’m not sure […]

Half Lost Book Review

Half Lost last instalment in the Half Bad series. If you haven’t read the other two click here for the first review and here for the second. Half Lost is Nathan’s journey as he begins to deal with his grief and loss. He realises that his part to play is a lot bigger than originally thought. Overview I thought that this was once again less clear. The clarity in the story and the character’s purpose became clouded. I hated that. It ruined […]

How to get through a reading slump

Reading slumps are the worst and they can really make reading seem like the worst hobby in the world. I’ve struggled with reading slumps caused by books that were awful, from the pressures I put on myself to finish even the worst of books, and from books that were too good to get over. More often called a book hangover. I thought it would be a nice blog post to write how I get over my reading slumps and book […]

Half Wild | Book Review

Half Wild is the second book in the series, if you haven’t read the first then read no further as there will be spoilers coming up. Click here to read my review on Half Bad and come back after. Half Wild follows Nathan and Gabriel as they set out to rescue the damsel in distress, meeting a range of interesting characters on the way. Overall This is where everything seemed to go wrong for me. The story began to lose the […]

Book Haul | Ireland Edition | Part 2

Following on from my book haul part one we spent a short amount of time in Dublin. It was almost coming round full circle. We were gifted a night at The Gresham Hotel as an engagement gift, so it seemed right for us to go back for just after our wedding. Anyway, onto the books. I did really well in Dublin, there were books that I had been looking for and then I discovered a few which is always nice. […]

Half Bad | Book Review

Overall I thought Half Bad was a great beginning to the series. The characters were interesting and the story seemed to have a strong arc going for it. I loved learning about the world and the way the politics worked within the world. It becomes really obvious the flaws in the system and it was interesting to see them develop and become a greater part of the story. Story/Plot Out of all three books, Half Bad has the strongest plot and story. […]

Book Haul from Ireland Part 1

We got married, in fact we have been married for almost a week, which is a crazy thought. There will be a blog post all about our big day but I’m waiting on a few photos and videos from different people. But before that there is a book haul from Ireland. Right now we’re relaxing in Ireland with my in-laws and having a few days downtime before we have to head back to the real world as a married couple. […]

Golden Son | Book review

Golden Son is the sequel to one of my favourite reads this year. This review will contain spoilers for the first book, so if you haven’t read it, skip this and go and read my review for the first book here. Overall Not as good as the first one. There was little clarity and the way the story developed wasn’t clear. I thought that the characters were strong but the plotline and the story was lacking. It was a little […]

Red Rising | Book Review

Red Rising by Pierce Brown is a book that offers a lot within its 388 pages. We follow Darrow, a Red miner under the surface of Mars, as he becomes a Gold – the elite in society. Brutal is the only way to describe this book, there are so many lies and enslavement of people it’s unreal. I just adore the way the book becomes something you never expect. Overall I personally think this book has a good mixture of […]

August TBR

This is this the month I get married. I haven’t cut down my reading only because I’m spending a week in Dublin and I might get some reading done. I’m not going to be hard on myself if I don’t get them all read because I GET MARRIED IN NINE DAYS. But here’s my August TBR. Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer This was technically on my list for last month. I didn’t get to it thanks to Golden […]
